Our results from the weekend...

Market Harborough Mens 1s played West Bridgford 3s on a very windy and wet, but thankfully not too cold, November morning. West Bridgford were level on points with the bottom teams going into the game but Harborough were taking nothing for granted, switching back to two defensive screens with an eye on keeping things tight ahead of a visit from top-of-the-table Northampton Saints 2s next week.
Harborough dominated the early exchanges and Jordan put the ball in the net after some typically scrappy centre forward play - snaffling up the loose ball from a yard out after the West Bridgford keeper made a mess of dealing with Alex's reverse stick cross.
Harborough had many, many chances to extend their lead including two open goals, one missed by Gary after a barn storming run to get on the end of a flowing move down the right, and another from Owen, this time even closer to the goal line after some neat interplay across the D. Alex managed to hit the base of the post and several short corners came and went with the West Bridgford's goal leading a charmed life.
Almost inevitably therefore, after a half time team talk which can be summarised by the request of "more of the same" Harborough conceded an incredibly soft goal to make it 1-1. James moved Ads aside to take a 16 which he decided to aerial down the pitch. Unfortunately, the air time was limited and the Bridgford centre forward happily plucked it from the air, near his shins. This attack was initially repelled by an intervening Ads, but sadly the subsequent glacially slow cross completely bamboozled James and the ball lightly tapped his foot in the D. At the ensuing short corner Bridgford played the percentages and struck the ball straight down the middle and into the net, via a bounce right in front of Jake.
Harborough tried in vain to come up with a winner: Alex's mazy run and shot was deflected away by a defender's back stick; Mark then rolled back the years with a lightning quick foray down the right where his subsequent pull back to Josh had the crowd on their feet with the goal at his mercy. Sadly, he connected too well and the crowd went back to their heels as the ball flashed past the left post.
That would be that and the scores remained level at the final whistle with both teams exchanging soggy handshakes. The Harborough players were disconsolate while the Bridgford players were clearly in celebratory mood and performed 6 cheers instead of the usual 3.
