Despite the opposition sitting 4th in the Division and having 16 players to Harborough’s 10, the away side were unlucky to come away empty handed as neither side dominated the match.
Whilst the home side created more chances in the first half, resolute defending from Harborough meant it was not until twenty minutes until the deadlock was broken. City converting from a short corner that was hit at pace through a number of players. Deep Singh and Neil James at the back kept the opposition to limited opportunities with Louis Dickinson, Richard Parr and Nathan Brown sitting off the back two and pushing the ball to the channels, for City to hit opportunistic crosses into the D which were quickly swept up. City’s second also came from a short corner, despite saving the first shot (on the knee) Simon Ingram-Hawkes was unable to keep the softly hit follow up. 2-0 down at the break.
The second half saw City having many attacks down the channel but unable to convert. Jake Sutherland and Manmeet Singh were covering many yards moving from defence to attack and vice versa, with the whole team playing their part. Ryan Bacon and James Attenborough ran the forward line. City pushed on and scored a third past a flailing keeper. Before Harborough finally earned a well deserved short corner but were unable to find the net. With a little over five minutes to go, Jake was struck on the knee by a lifted ball and the 9 men of Harborough held fast until the final whistle. Whilst the results have not gone our way, the quality of hockey being played has improved significantly since the start of the season.
