A mixed bag of results, a fine day of hockey with four home games, and another big win for our Women's 1s!

MEN'S 1 drew 2-2 at home to Boots 2

Goals: Simon Chapman & Cian Kirke

Player of the Match: Cian Kirke

MEN'S 2 lost 0-2 away to Atherstone Adders 2

MEN'S 3 won 4-0 away to University of Warwick 4

Goals: Thomas Ainsworth, Ted Baker & Richard Goswell (2)

Player of the Match: Simon Scott

Men's 3 continue with their winning form with a well deserved 4-0 win against Warwick Uni.

A 9.15am meet for a 10am start is never normally good and we expected the Uni students to be rough from their Friday night parties. However, by the time most of the team found and then paid for the car park it was a surprise to see 15 young students warming up on the pitch. The Students probably had more of the possession, but we made the most of ours and by half-time were 2 goals up. The second half was much the same with another 2 goals.

I can only really recall one of the goals since Noel Burton made an uncharacteristic pass from inside the D for Ted Baker to score his first goal for the 3rds. Richard Parr made a welcome return to hockey after 12 years away and played very well in defence. Matt Knipe also did a great job in defence for his first game of the season. Both Simon Scott and Simon Ingram-Hawkes did well, with the latter keeping a clean sheet in goal, and Simon Scott earning Player of the Match for covering so much ground.

A great game by everyone and looking forward to keeping the winning run going next week.

MEN'S 4 drew 1-1 at home to Leicester 4

Goal: Phil Dickinson

The 4s had their first match of the season against local rivals Leicester at RSA this afternoon. Both teams fielded a mix of players at both ends of their hockey careers and on paper the match looked to be a pretty even affair.

The game started with both teams having an equal amount of play and end-to-end hockey, neither side really making any chances. Just under midway through the first half, Leicester had a penalty corner and with an assist from Martyn Wilkinson managed to sneak the lead. The rest of the half saw both sides playing some entertaining hockey with a lot of good play by the new members of the team being encouraged by those less younger.

The second half started with more end-to-end play but Harborough began to have a little more possession and a slight edge. With about 10 minutes to go, Martyn redeemed himself and managed to feed the ball through to Phil Dickinson who slotted home the equaliser. Harborough edged the balance of play slightly in the last few minutes but were unable to find a winner.

The game was played in a good spirit with both sides playing some good and entertaining hockey. Credit to James Attenborough, Ryan Bacon, George Smith, Louis Dickinson and Nathan Brown, for how they played and how they all grew in confidence throughout the match, and a big thanks to Deep Singh, Phil, Martyn and Jake Sutherland for the support they gave to the new players and also to Owen Arthur who was a powerhouse in midfield. It would be too hard to pick a player of the match as there were many fine performances today.
