MEN'S 4 lost 0-10 away to Tamworth 2
Men's 4 made the longest away trip of the season to the Staffordshire Anglo-Saxon Market Town of Tamworth, named after the River Tame. A hike to the pitch saw the nine men of Harborough come face to face with the fifteen men of Tamworth. The game started with both sides enjoying equal amounts of play with David Wilford and Finn Ingram-Hawkes ably stopping the Tamworth attack before it could do any damage. Even with two less players Harborough were able to mount several attacks into the opposition half and the opponents D. Only some solid defending denying Martyn Wilkinson playing in the lone striker role.
Tamworth scored two in quick succession, one from a quick play across the goal to the extra man on the back post, the second a a rocket of a shot that whistled passed Simon Ingram-Hawkes' right ear; an inch or two to the left and it may have been a spectacular if not painful save.
The nine men dug deep playing some good hockey on the break. Richard Parr running the right channels and Louis Dickinson playing a blinder in the left with Cameron Smith and Jake Sutherland interchanging the centre of the pitch; and Jude Baxter, despite suffering a nasty whack to his foot, providing the outlet for the forward line. Despite some good play by Harborough, Tamworth made the extra men count on the break scoring three more before half-time.
The second half started with Tamworth scoring within a few minutes after some pinball shots in the D. Harborough hung on and had their purple patch of the game forcing saves from the Tamworth keeper and several short corners, but the opposition seemed to always have a man on the line.
The injuries to Harborough started to mount, and this resulted in enforced changes to formation but ultimately the extra players and some well drilled penalty corners saw Tamworth add four more before the final whistle. A really solid performance by the team, all of whom deserve PotM and no DotD this week. Well played chaps.
